Abstract
Agritourism is an emerging modality that links agriculture and tourism. Is “a form of commercial enterprise that links agricultural production and/or processing with tourism for the purposes of entertaining and/or educating the visitors and generating income for the farm, ranch, or business owner” (National Agricultural Law Center, Arkansas). In this study, we will analyze agritourism in Puerto Rico based on the SWOT matrix, which gives us a broader view of the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats facing those farms who are offering these activities in the country. Surveys were conducted to 20 agritourism service providers throughout the island of Puerto Rico. The results identified several problems related to the lack of infrastructure, government support, education, and organization. Among the opportunities, it is identified that agritourism could function as a strategy to improve the situation in agriculture and the additional income to farmers through the diversification of operations.
