Percepción del joven 4-H sobre su desarrollo positivo al asumir el rol de joven-maestro ("teen-as-teacher") en los proyectos Promotores de Salud y Ruta 4-H

Abstract

This quantitative study sought to determine if the “teen-as teacher” educational strategy promotes positive youth development in 4-H youth while assuming their role as a teen teacher through the projects “Promotores de Salud” and “Ruta 4-H” in Puerto Rico. The study aims to obtain the perception of positive youth development and training received from the 4-H youth who participated as a teen teacher. A sample of 52 members of 4-H senior category who were teen teachers during January to May 2019 through the different regions of the Agricultural Extension Service in PR was used. The youth completed a questionnaire from which it was found that 93% of the teen teachers "strongly agree" or "agree" on their positive youth development and on the training received. The 4-H youth had an increase in positive development, in basic development of skills and abilities, in expanding the teaching-learning process and in socialization.

Este estudio cuantitativo buscó determinar si la estrategia educativa del jovenmaestro promueve el desarrollo positivo en los jóvenes 4-H a través de los proyectos, Promotores de Salud y Ruta 4-H en Puerto Rico. El estudio tiene como objetivo obtener la percepción sobre el desarrollo positivo y capacitación recibida de los jóvenes 4-H que participaron en este estudio. Se utilizó una muestra de 52 participantes de la categoría “senior” que fueron jóvenes maestros durante enero a mayo 2019 a través de las diferentes regiones del Servicio de Extensión Agrícola de PR. Los participantes completaron un cuestionario del cual se encontró que el 93% de los jóvenes maestros están “muy de acuerdo” o “de acuerdo” en su desarrollo positivo y en la capacitación recibida. Los participantes tuvieron un aumento en el desarrollo positivo, en las destrezas y habilidades básicas del desarrollo, en expandir el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje y en la socialización.
