He was born in Mayagüez and was raised in the neighboring town of Hormigueros. Ever since the Spanish colonized Puerto Rico in the sixteenth century, Christmas celebrations have always been intimately intertwined with Puerto Rican culture. R.C. reminisces about some of his most cherished memories associated with the holidays as he grew up in the 1980s, but at the same time, reflects on certain experiences, songs, and Christmas traditions that highlight socioeconomic inequity among the Puerto Rican population that are often unperceived by many, including himself when he was younger.
