Publication Métodos educativos utilizados por los agentes agrícolas y economistas del hogar de la región de Mayagüez(2009) Santana-Ortiz, Gloria E.; Santiago-Andino, Edly; College of Agricultural Sciences; Villamil Freytes, José A.; Department of Agricultural Education; Ruiz Vargas, YolandaThe purpose of this study was to describe the knowledge, perception and methods most used by the Agricultural Agents and Home Economists of the Mayaguez Region. For this study there was a participation of nineteen Agricultural Agents and twelve Home Economists with forty-two years of experience in their specialization area. The majority of the participants have a Masters degree and they understand that it is good to know educational methods so they can offer more information to their clients, but they indicated that they use farm visits and workshops because the interaction with their clients is important and their clients prefer the workshops and farm visits. Participants indicated lack of knowledge of what is a “homemade study kit” and “teletype messages”. The lack of money, time, and knowledge do not allow them to use new methods and are barriers for not knowing and using new methods. Both groups demonstrated in a test a low knowledge about methods but wish to receive more information to know new methods because are important to impact their clients. Besides, they indicated that they prefer to receive information through training and written information or the Internet. It is recommended to offer training to the Extension Agent about different educational methods that were presented in this study.
