Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of thrips populations in the severity of Alternaria allii under field conditions. Alternaria. allii and Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli severity and damage index caused by thrips was evaluated at 14 and 45 days after inoculation of pathogens. Thrips number per plant was counted, and thrips species were identified. A triple interaction was observed between experiments, treatment and sampling, with a greater severity of A. allii with natural populations of thrips and inoculations of A. allii. Frankliniella fusca was the most abundant thrips species in both experiments. Plants inoculated with Acidovorax did not show symptoms. F. occidentalis and F. shultzei was observed associated with the crop. A suitable management of thrips populations in the field is necessary to reduce the impact of this disease.
