Typical industrial buildings owned by PRIDCO are used by various industries and are located all over the island of Puerto Rico. Many of them were abandoned and are in the process of deterioration. The government of Puerto Rico aims to encourage the establishment of industries in these facilities and it is required to evaluate whether they meet with the new code regulations, because many of these structures were designed in the 1970s when code requirements on wind required a basic wind speed of 117 miles per hour and earthquake loads requirements were minimum. For that reason these structures are in danger of failing in a natural disaster. The main purpose of this project is to analyze and verify the structural design of several structures located in Mayagüez which are property of PRIDCO. The verification will be performed using the codes used when the construction took place and then will be evaluated using the current code regulations and then recommendations to strengthen the structures and comply with the new load requirements will be presented.
