Oral history interview with Paola Cintrón Matías, September 30, 2022

Abstract

Paola Cintrón Matías is a 19-year-old college student who attends the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. She likes to listen to music, play videogames, drink coffee, and hang around with friends. The interview addresses the events of Hurricane Maria during her 9th grade school year. During this, her house burned down due to a blunder on the generator they were using at the time. Both her and her family were greatly affected by this incident. Paola’s experience exhibits how people can lose everything in the blink of an eye. It took her some time to recover everything lost and yet the scar of it all remains. While her and her family managed to later convalesce, many others who have suffered similar experiences have yet managed to do so.

Paola Cintrón Matías es una estudiante de la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico de 19 años. Le gusta escuchar música, jugar videojuegos, beber café y pasarla con sus amigos. La entrevista aborda el hecho del evento que ocurrió durante su experiencia de 9no grado, el huracán María. Durante esto su casa se quemo por completo a causa de una falla del generador que utilizaban para ese tiempo. Ambos ella y su familia fueron grandemente afectados por este incidente. La experiencia de Paola ensena como las personas pueden perder todo en un parpadeo. Le tomo tiempo recuperar todo lo que perdió y todavía tiene la cicatriz de todo lo que ocurrió. Aunque ella y su familia pudieron volver a recobrar lo que perdieron, muchas personas con experiencias similares todavía no han podido hacer eso.
