Abstract
The present research was conducted to investigate the in vitro cytotoxic activity of dichloromethane extracts obtained from the leaves of sourpsop (Annona muricata L.) on human colon cancer cell line HT-29, as an alternative for the development of new treatments against this disease. The isolation and purification process included extractions using methanol followed by partitions with hexane and dichloromethane. Soluble dichloromethane phase was subjected to successive fractionations on column chromatography. It was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC) to obtain a fraction F5, F5-4 y F5-42. Phytochemical screening was done to identify chemical groups and metabolites in the different fractions obtained by the thin layer chromatography method, the results revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenes, coumarins, lactones, etc. in the extracts. Subsequently, to evaluate the effect of extracts on cell viability of colon cancer cells, cytotoxic studies were done using the MTT assays. In HT-29, methanolic, DCM, hexane extract, exhibited remarkable IC50 0.16mg/mL, 0.05mg/mL, 0.12mg/mL y 0.32mg/mL lrespectively. The anti-proliferative activity was attributed to the presence terpenoids compounds with biological activity.
