The analysis aims to identify the skills of the Extensionist participating in this study, to promote the Adult-Youth Relationship in the Promotion of Positive Development of the 4-H partner. A sample of 41 Extensionists who had a percentage of their plan of work assigned to the Youth and 4-H Clubs program during the 2019-2020 fiscal year was used through the different regions of the Agricultural Extension Service of Puerto Rico. Participants completed a questionnaire that reveals that most of them have “very good” or “adequate” skills to promote the adult-youth relationship and to promote the positive development of the 4-H youth. The Extensionists demonstrated the promotion of the adult-youth relationship due their skills, areas of development in the program and their availability to expand and be trained on it.

PublicationPercepción del joven 4-H sobre su desarrollo positivo al asumir el rol de joven-maestro ("teen-as-teacher") en los proyectos Promotores de Salud y Ruta 4-H( 2021-01-28) Zayas Orfila, Alberto S. ; Rodríguez Rodríguez, María del C. ; College of Agricultural Sciences ; Arias Vega, Santiago ; Conde Pacheco, Judith ; Department of Agricultural Education ; Zapata Medina, RocíoThis quantitative study sought to determine if the “teen-as teacher” educational strategy promotes positive youth development in 4-H youth while assuming their role as a teen teacher through the projects “Promotores de Salud” and “Ruta 4-H” in Puerto Rico. The study aims to obtain the perception of positive youth development and training received from the 4-H youth who participated as a teen teacher. A sample of 52 members of 4-H senior category who were teen teachers during January to May 2019 through the different regions of the Agricultural Extension Service in PR was used. The youth completed a questionnaire from which it was found that 93% of the teen teachers "strongly agree" or "agree" on their positive youth development and on the training received. The 4-H youth had an increase in positive development, in basic development of skills and abilities, in expanding the teaching-learning process and in socialization.
